It’s hard to believe that we’re already at the end of the first month of 2019!
But January wouldn't truly feel right without reflecting on how incredible 2018 has been and sharing our hopes for 2019.
We started 2018 with a lot of questions. But none loomed larger than whether “could FEJ Gear one day become a thriving business?”. It was a serious concern we had. Why were there so few brands targeted towards Hajj and Umrah pilgrims? Is it because the sector was too small? Or is it because the market just didn’t exist? We didn’t know what we were getting into and whether we should commit. As experienced entrepreneurs with past successes and failures under our belt we didn’t know where the road would go, but decided we must take it anyway.
The last twelve months have taken us across the world from Vancouver to New York, London to Kuala Lumpur. We took a deep dive into the core of the Hajj & Umrah industry and gained amazing insights into where things are today, and where they’re heading in the future. We connected with hundreds of customers that we genuinely loved, and who loved us right back. We got picked up by retailers around the world and our products are now sold in the heart of Makkah. We even relocated our Canadian headquarters from beautiful Montreal to Toronto and are psyched to start fresh in a dynamic (and massive) new city.
It’s hard to believe that so much has happened since the Ramadan of 2017, when we first launched FEJ Gear on LaunchGood (the Muslim community’s beloved crowdfunding platform) to a small, but super supportive group of early adopters. We had spent many months quietly working on the world’s first Hajj backpack to help Hajjis carry their essentials in a safe, comfortable and convenient way. The fact there were so few quality travel products available for the Hajj & Umrah was something that bothered us deeply. We doubled down and decided to give this important segment of travelers the attention they rightfully deserved through products that were specifically made for their journey. Because after all they weren’t just traveling to have a good time, they were on a journey to fulfill a central tenet of their faith, the 5th pillar of Islam - the Hajj. And we truly understood and appreciated what that meant.
As we renew our intentions for 2019, we’re so excited to kick things off with a new LaunchGood campaign, a stunning collection of ingenious Hajj & Umrah products and a renewed commitment to serving Hajjis to the very best of our capability. For 2018 we give a heartfelt and sincere “Alhamdulilah".
For 2019, Bismillah! Let’s do this.
