This year we were blessed to take part in two of the largest Muslim conventions in North America - RIS (Reviving the Islamic Spirit) in Toronto and MASCon in Chicago.
These two community gatherings take place in the last two weeks of December. For all who participate in both, it's a whirlwind of packing, traveling and networking. For our team, they're an opportunity to connect with our customers and hear about their Hajj experiences and travels. These are the conversations that inspire our next products and adventures.
As we reflect on the last two weeks, here are our five biggest takeaways from both RIS and MASCon in 2019!
FEJ Gear's 3rd year at RIS was our best ever
Nicer booth, new products and a lot of fun! At RIS 2017 we only had one product - the Journey II Hajj Backpack. We've come a long way since then (Alhamdulilah!). For us, RIS is more than a convention, it's where our journey started. Having it in Toronto allows us to get super creative with our booth and go all out. It's also where we catch up with some of our earliest customers, supporters, and friends. Until next time!
MASCon draws in the crowds
This year was our first MAS-ICNA convention in Chicago and it definitely won't be the last. We were taken aback by how well attended the convention was and by the diversity of the community there. The convention started with a Friday khutba (sermon) by Imam Omar Suleiman was a powerful reminder about the importance of supporting the doers in our community instead of engaging in negativity and criticism. We can achieve so much more by building each other up than tearing each other down. Now that's something we can all get behind.
Our Solar Visors were a hit (and run)
One thing we haven't done before is actually wear our Solar Visors. This time we donned our latest game-changing invention for everyone to see them in action. Not only do they protect from prolonged exposure to the sun, but they also look and feel amazing. We also got to hear stories about how they protected more than a few heads from stones at the Jamarat. Yikes!
New year, new collaborations
One thing we love about conventions is that they open up the doors to new projects and collaborations. This year we'll be focusing on partnering with some amazing brands to co-create and innovate to make better products for the Hajj and Umrah. We're also super excited to be partnering with amazing Hajj travel companies, charities and community groups to grow our impact. Stay tuned for some amazing updates ahead of Hajj 2020!
The Ummah continues to innovate
It's always exciting when we find new businesses that bring something useful and innovative to the table. That's why when we came across an amazing Home Azan System by Masjidal we were genuinely impressed. They've reimagined the outdated Azan clock with a sleek, beautiful, touch-screen interface that displays prayer times and lets out the most soothing Azan. It's also extremely loud (and therefore effective) and the perfect productivity booster in our studio.
With that, we conclude our last post of the year. We wish all our customers, partners and friends a very happy and blessed new year!
